Happy Feet: Ideas For Healthy Feet

What if you had feet so happy they danced to every tune of music? No, I don’t mean you should go join a tap dancing class immediately, but yes, wouldn’t it be nice to keep your feet happy? Busy with your hectic schedules, with little or no time for your feet, they too need a dose of TLC. Here’s a low down of things you can do to get those happy feet.

Easy Daily Practices

The secret is out. Walk. Jog. Recollect memories of the time when you went to school and walked or cycled with friends for long hours; being full of energy and enthusiasm. As adults in office, you can do that by climbing up the stairs once in a while, or walking down the lower floors instead of taking the elevators. Moving from your cubicle to your colleague’s cubicle at work instead of using a landline phone to discuss is another easy practise. Post-meal walk around your office complex for fifteen to twenty minutes could do the trick. And on weekends, when you have more time onyour hands, head out for a yoga class or dance class too.

Spending Time Outdoors

Plan for short holidays that include treks,  terrain walks, running, cycling and participating in marathons. Do this not just for a medal but for your own fitness; this will automatically make your feet happy. Going for heritage walks, wildlife sanctuary visits will not only increase your knowledge in terms of history but also keep you energetic, fit & healthy. In the city, you could head to the nearest park, slip off your shoes and walk barefoot on the fresh grass. While you are at it, try walking backwards too, it is said to be a brilliant workout!

Exfoliation and Much Deserved Pampering

You  remember to apply the best of sunscreens for your face, you also remember to drink water throughout the day, but many a times forget your feet. A little indulgence in a nightly ritual for your feet is a good time to make up for this. After you get back from work, enjoy a relaxing cold shower followed by lathering your feet with some indulging coco-butter cream. In the same way, hydration for your feet using natural oils or foot cream will help. Also, make exfoliation  an important part of this ritual, as it helps in cleaning dry skin. Investing few hours at a salon for a foot spa or foot massages is a super indulgence you can gift yourself at the end of a long week.

Let Them Breathe

A simple but often forgotten fact is that your feet need to breathe too. You are exposed to the elements all day long and your feet are almost always trapped in the confines of heels, closed shoes or flats. This might be inspired from the latest fashion trends, but they are rarely feet friendly. Avoid keeping your feet inside the footwear for a long. Especially during monsoons, keep your feet clean. And for us girls, while we love that latest nail colour, do give your nails a few days of break before applying a new one.And come on, let’s buy footwear that fits properly and is comfortable too.

I have made a promise to myself of pampering my feet by following two simple steps – daily wash with lukewarm water and a five-minute coconut oil massage so as to keep them healthy and happy. Do you have a secret to happy feet? We’d love to hear from you!
